Going to the Next Level

Carpenter's Square was founded on the legacy of Kyle Hutchison and his desire to help a group of young men succeed through spiritual mentoring, sportsmanship, and the hope of attending college and earning a degree. When Kyle passed away suddenly at age 33, a group of men stepped in to keep the dream of Kyle and "his boys" alive. Today we have hundreds of young people pass through the doors of the Kyle Hutchison Center at Carpenter's Square as they learn to play basketball, receive mentoring and spiritual guidance, and get on the path to earning a college degree.

Kyle's dream continues.

Scholarships, mentoring, and affordable housing are a big part of what we do at Carpenter's Square. Now we are going to the next level with the addition of Coach Jeremy Pope and his Next Level Skills Basketball Program at Carpenter's Square.

Raised in Westerville, Ohio, Jeremy Pope moved to Nashville in 2014 after earning his bachelors degree in physical education from Goshen College and a masters degree in sports management from Lasell College. He was a three-sport varsity athlete in high school, but basketball was his love. After playing basketball for Goshen College for four years, he stuck around to do college admissions for athletes and urban students that were considering Goshen College. Through his love of education and basketball, Next Level Skills Basketball Academy was developed to prepare student athletes all around the Nashville area to be successful at the college level off and on the court.

The program provides on-the-court workouts, then uses college prep meetings, information packets, and intentional conversations to prepare student athletes and their families for the ups and downs of being a collegiate student athlete in order to earn a college degree.

Jeremy works full-time with youth at the Franklin YMCA and then several afternoons a week he comes to Carpenter's Square to pour into the lives of 30 these first generation students.  As we work together in the lives of these students, Carpenter's Square will provide mentoring, spiritual formation, and assist with college readiness skills such as a FAFSA application day, mock interviews, scholarships, and business dress and etiquette workshops.

This partnership ensures that as we continue to grow, connect, and reach out to our community, that Kyle's legacy of love and service will also continue to grow, connect and reach the youth he cared for and loved so much.

Welcome to Carpenter's Square, Coach Jeremy Pope and Next Level Skills Basketball Academy!
